Every first Saturday in March, the Red Stick Fly Fishers host our annual Red Stick Day "conclave" - a celebration of fly fishing. Whether beginner or expert, there's something for everyone!

Activities include:
- Programs
- Fly Tying Demonstrations
- Casting Demonstrations
- Beginner Seminar
- Retailers
- Fishing on premises
- Jambalaya lunch available (lunch ticket $8)

** Please note that again for 2018 our location will be at Perkins Community Park.  Our traditional event location - LDWF Waddill Outdoors Education Center - suffered serious damage from the Flood of August 2016 and is still in repair. **

Fly tying begins at 9:00am and continues through the day. Some of the region's top fly tiers will be on hand,

There's free refreshments during the day. A jambalaya lunch with salad for $8 will be available. Then there's the big raffle for flies, tackle, equipment, and other items. Proceeds from the raffle help pay expenses for this event, as well as support club conservation and education projects.

2:30pm - Raffle - this helps fund our event as well as conservation and education projects

Fly Casting Instruction
At 9:30am and 1:00pm fly casting instruction by Roger del Rio.  Roger is an FFI Certified Casting Instructor and founding member of the Red Stick Fly Fishers   

Speakers and Programs

Bill Laminack – Bass on the Fly

Bill hails from Panama City, Florida and is an avid fishermen and fly tier.  In addition to speaking about bass on the fly, Bill will also tie some of the successful bass flies that he has developed. Bill is noted for his exceptional deer hair flies.

Tristan Daire- Redfish Techniques  

Captain Tristan is owner of Ole Towne Fly Shop and Outfitters in Slidell, LA. Tristan has been fishing the Mississippi River Delta his entire life. As a guide, he specializes in Fly Fishing/Light Tackle sight fishing Hopedale and Delacroix. Tristan also fishes Lake Pontchartrain as well as redfish tournaments

Eddie Mullen - Kayak fishing Pointe Aux Chenes

Credited with creating Louisiana’s first Kayak marina, Eddie is owner and guide of PAC Kayaks. Pac Kayaks provides a floating Kayak launch, kayak rentals and guide service. Eddie will talk about fishing the Pointe Aux Chenes area.

Ben Roussel - Trout fishing North Georgia

Ben, from Baton Rouge, is editor of the web site From Mountains to Marsh. His success in fishing salt, fresh and cold water can be seen on his web site. Ben is a member of the Jackson Kayak Pro Staff and a frequent tournament fishermen. He is very familiar with the North Georgia and will tell us about trout fishing that beautiful mountain area.

Casting Instructors

Roger del Rio – A founding member of RSFF, and a Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF) Certified Casting Instructor. He's been fly fishing saltwater for nearly 30 years! Roger will cover casting basics and casting instruction.
