Red Stick Fly Fishers was founded in 1988. Our mission is to promote fly fishing, conservation and outdoor ethics in the capitol region of Louisiana. Interests of our members range from mountain trout fishing to inshore saltwater to offshore big game to local waters for bass and bluegill.
We meet twice each month except for December.

Programs include guest speakers on a wide variety of topics, educational videos, and club experts. During Spring and Fall, we hold casting practice and instruction outside prior to the meeting.
Fly Tying Sessions

Our tying sessions offer hands-on instruction. A featured tier demonstrates and teaches one or
more of their favorite fly patterns. Bring your tying tools. If none, the club has sets for use during the session. Materials are provided. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged!

Monthly program meetings, fly tying sessions and special events are open to the public. Unless otherwise noted, all other club activities, such as trips, are for paid members only.
Outings
The following are annual fishing trips the club organizes:
- Spring trip to the Little Missouri River for rainbow trout
- Spring freshwater weekend to Lake Concordia
- Spring marsh fishing trip to Golden Meadow
- Fall freshwater weekend to Lake Concordia
- Fall marsh fishing trip to Golden Meadow
There's also day outings to several local waters, including the dozen BREC ponds. Those ponds are stocked in winter with rainbow trout, and contain native bass, bream and crappie.
The club occasionally schedules a long weekend trip to the Little Missouri River in southwest Arkansas, for rainbow and brown trout. Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, this year-round tailwater fishery is 6.5 hours from Baton Rouge.
Events
Each year in early March, Red Stick Fly Fishers hosts our annual "Red Stick Day", a fly fishing festival. The event is free and open to the public. It often features one of the more prominent names in our sport, as well as regional experts. Several of the region's top fly tiers demonstrate their favorite patterns. There are also programs, fly casting clinics, exhibitors, kayak demos, great food, raffles, and more.
Each year, on the 4th Saturday of September, RSFF participates in the "National Hunting and Fishing Day" outdoors festival hosted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Club members teach fly tying and fly casting to dozens of youth and adults.
Fly Fishers International (FFI)
FFI is the world's largest organization of fly anglers. It's mission is conservation, education, and community. Membership includes discounts on books and videos, as well as
subscription
to the award winning FlyFisher magazine. Dues go towards conservation
projects and causes like Reel Recovery and Casting for Recovery. For

The FFI is divided into regional councils consisting of affiliated and charter clubs, and individual members. Red Stick Fly Fishers is an affiliated member of the FFI Gulf Coast Council (GCC). The GCC is involved in regional education programs and conservation issues, and holds an annual event each Spring called the "Gulf Coast Classic". For details, go to www.ffigcc.org.
As an affiliated club in the FFI, club members are not required to be members of FFI. However, we highly encourage our members to join
this wonderful organization.
